The New Who's On First!!

Conversation between Dylan (2 1/2) and his friend Cayden (3 1/2).  They were looking out the window while Cayden's mommy was walking up.

Dylan: Look, Mommy!
Cayden: No, my mommy.
Dylan: My mommy?
Cayden: No, my mommy...not your mommy.
Dylan: Not your mommy?
Cayden: No, my mommy.
Dylan: My mommy?
Cayden: No, my mommy...not your mommy!
Dylan: Not your mommy?

This went on a couple more rounds until...

Cayden: No...not your mommy...my mommy.
Dylan: Oh...your mommy!

Seriously the new Who's On First!!

Money, Money, Money, Money...Money!

Recently I took Dylan to pick out his first piggy bank.  He chose a piggy that looks like a zebra...it is adorable.  He has been earning pennies for chores done around the house such as getting the eggs from the coop, watering the garden, helping with laundry, and putting toys away.  When asked what he is saving for he replied "Cookies".  This is so hilarious to me since we don't typically buy cookies from the store to begin with.
Yesterday, walking through a parking lot, we found a quarter and a penny.  Dylan was so excited especially when I explained that Papa and Mommy like to look for money on the ground too.  When we got home he added the money to his bank right away.
Today, as we were cleaning out the vehicles I told Dylan he could keep any money he found.  He was thrilled to add almost four dollars of loose change to his piggy! While we were sorting the coins I asked him who he thought was on the penny.  He examined it and said "Jo Jo".  He is so cute!!

Little Trickster

While Dylan was watering the plants in the garden it appeared that the hose got wrapped around one of the posts.
Dylan: "Mommy...need help!"
I step into the garden to offer my assistance.
Dylan: "I get you mommy!!"
That little trickster turned and sprayed me with a big grin on his face.
Such a mischief maker...love him.

Nature Loving Boy

My nature loving boy was so cute yesterday on our walk. He was saying hello to all the ants and butterflies. Then he literally knelt down kissed a patch of grass and tousled the top of it as though it was hair. A friendly little gesture that continued down the grassy path. Such a happy boy and sweet as can be.

Dylan's Baby

The last few nights Dylan has adopted Cece's little pink glow worm as his own. He carries her around and calls her baby. It is the cutest thing ever! He tends to her every need. He tells us when she is crying and then proceeds to nurse her, burp her, change her diaper and put her to bed. Last night he read her a story and showered her with kisses. She is now his nightly companion and even sleeps with him. He is such a good big brother and so full of love.

Proud Mama

I am such a proud mama tonight...as Dylan was getting ready for bed he used his words and said "I want to read". I am elated!!

It has come to my attention that Dylan has seen daddy give mommy too many little pats on the bottom. Recently he has taken it upon himself to give these love taps to others such as mommy, daddy, his friend Sky and even himself on occasion. Flying home from Washington Dylan was playing in the aisle of the plane when the rather large flight attendant squeezed past him to begin drink service. The gentleman had to bend forward to get a soda from the cart. As he did so Dylan became directly eye level with his backside. I saw the look in Dylan's eyes and before I could stop him he went for it. He gave that flight attendant a little smack on the old caboose! It was a much needed laugh after a tough weekend. Love my mischief maker.

My Little Cheerleader

Dylan has become our family's little cheerleader these days. Two nights ago Cliff and I went running. As we were coming down the home stretch I started to drop off Cliff's pace and fall behind. Dylan noticed and stuck his head out from the side of his stroller and yelled "Mommy...Go!" That was all the inspiration I needed to finish strong. Last night I was playing piano. Dylan came and joined me on the bench and started playing along. Soon Cliff brought Cece over and she seemed very curious about the big noisemaker. So Cliff held her in a seated position on the piano bench. Cece reached out in front of her and touched the keys. Instead of pushing her hands away Dylan looked at her and said "There you go!" I loved how encouraging and sweet he was to her.

Time Out Mommy!

Tonight Dylan was playing on the computer when he really wasn't supposed to be. I came over to him and tried to redirect his attention to dancing with me, which he normally enjoys. Well that didn't go over as smoothly as I'd hoped. He got quite angry with me and started telling me "no". Then he began pointing his little finger at me while ranting in his gibberish. The next thing I knew he took me by the hand and led me toward the hallway. When we got to the wall he directed me to sit. Apparently mommy was on TIME OUT!!

Leaving on a Jet Plane

My parents visited this past week to celebrate La Befana. Dylan was absolutely thrilled to see his Nonni and Papa and enjoyed every moment shared with them. On Tuesday they returned home to California. When they left Cliff told Dylan that they had to get on a plane to go bye-bye. For the rest of the day every time Dylan saw a plane fly by he looked up, waved, and said "Bye-bye Nonni, bye-bye Papa".

I Didn't Do It

I have worked with kids for six years so I am well aware that it's in a child's nature to avoid blame. But wow does it start early. This morning Dylan was eating his cereal when he decided to crush it into tiny bits by driving his toy car through it. When I told him he needed to clean it up he showed me the toy car in his hand and explained in his 2 year old gibberish that the car had made the mess.

The Power of an M&M

Potty training has gotten a lot easier with my new friends M&M...Dylan went to the potty 3 times today!! He thinks he is getting a great deal...pee pee=1 M&M, poop=2 M&Ms. Seeing that this is his first taste of candy he is thrilled. Bribery most definitely works.
